After mid-week action in England’s secondary cup competition, at the weekend, it’s time for the FA Cup, which remains the primary knockout competition on English shores.
At Ashton Gate, the Championship hosts will be looking to cause an upset by beating Premier League opposition. Read on for our Bristol City vs Wolves predictions, tips and match preview.
Bristol City vs Wolves prediction
For the Bristol City vs Wolves match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-0 win for Wolves based on our analysis.
The Championship hosts have performed well in their own division of late, so they’ll definitely approach this game feeling confident, but they’re not the biggest scorers, so don’t be surprised if the Premier League visitors grind this out.

Bristol City vs Wolves head-to-head statistics
While this fixture is far from a regular occurrence, the pair did meet in the FA Cup at this venue back in 2019, when Wolves won by a goal to nil, thanks to a strike from the now departed Ivan Cavaleiro.
Bristol City vs Wolves preview
This match will be played on date at Ashton Gate. Kick off will be at 12:00 GMT.
Right now, the Bristol City boys are enjoying something of a purple patch. They’ll head into Saturday’s cup clash having gone four games without a loss, winning three of those four.
Last time out, Liam Manning’s men got the job done in front of a home crowd, beating Derby County by a goal to nil, courtesy of a first-half finish from defender Luke McNally. That result marked three straight home wins for the Robins, who’ve conceded zero goals during that time.
Not only have Saturday’s hosts won each of their last three at Ashton Gate, but they’re also unbeaten in five in front of a home crowd, keeping four clean sheets in the process. Such form is just what the doctor ordered ahead of a tough FA Cup match against Premier League opposition.
As for the visitors, well, they too enjoyed something of a purple patch after Vitor Pereira turned up, though that patch came to a rather abrupt end on Monday evening, when they lost at home to Nottingham Forest.
That home defeat was ideal and it may have knocked the confidence of the men from Molineux, though this game against lower-level opposition is the perfect opportunity for them to get straight back on the horse.
Bristol City vs Wolves Betting tips
Two bets appeal ahead of the FA Cup fixture at Ashton Gate.
Wolves to Win
I’ll get straight to the point here and say that the visitors are being underestimated ahead of this game. Yes, they are without key player Matheus Cunha, and yes, they’re coming off the back of a loss, but should they be as big as 7/5 to win away against modest Championship opposition? Absolutely not.
As the table above suggests, my calculations suggest that there’s a 44.1% chance of the visitors winning this game. The currently available odds of 7/5 imply a probability of just 41.7%, so I’d very much argue that we’ve got a 2.4% edge here.
Let’s be honest, the hosts have shown promising home form of late, but it’s not as if they’ve been beating the biggest and best that the Championship has to offer, with each of their three recent home wins coming against teams currently ranked in the bottom half. They’ve scored just once in two of those three.
Even without Cunha, Wolves shouldn’t have too many problems overpowering the hosts, so much so that they’re a decent bet to get the job done all the time that odds of 7/5 are available.
Wolves to Score Over 1.5 Goals
At odds of 11/10, I also like the look of the visitors to score a couple of goals. Since Pereira arrived, they’ve been quite offensive, while they’ve been more effective in the final third too, scoring multiple goals against Spurs, Man United and Leicester.
In the Championship, generally, the hosts don’t concede buckets of goals, especially at home, but when they hosted high-flyers Sheffield United, they conceded twice, while they also failed to keep a clean sheet at home to promotion chasers Burnley, allowing an xG total of 1.40. This bodes well for the visitors, who have the tools to do some serious damage here.
