As is the case around this time every year, the FA Cup starts to heat up, and this weekend we’ve got a bit of everything that this grand old competition is famous for.
With loads of games coming our way, there’s the potential for huge upsets and serious drama, and we’re here to try and make a few quid along the way. Read on for our FA Cup accumulator tips.
Accumulator tips for today
All of the games featured in this accumulator are due to take place on 11/01/2024, with the first starting at 15:00 GMT, before the final two games are played at 18:00 GMT.
Three selections make up Saturday’s FA Cup accumulator bet, which pays 9/2 with Betfred.
Norwich vs Brighton - Both Teams to Score
The first port of call here is the Championship vs Premier League affair between Norwich and Brighton, which takes place at Carrow Road.
As top-level visitors, the Seagulls will be looking to assert themselves in East Anglia, but this may not be plain sailing for Fabian Hurzeler’s men, who have a dreadful defensive record on the road.
Sure, the visitors know how to score goals, so much so that it’s hard to see them not making headway against Championship opponents, who’ve kept only one clean sheet in their last six, but let’s face it, the hosts know how to score goals and should get plenty of joy in front of their own fans, especially on the break.
Positively, both teams have scored in five of Norwich’s last six overall, while the Seagulls have both scored and conceded in each of their last six on the road.
Leyton Orient vs Derby - Both Teams to Score
Next up we’ve got Leyton Orient vs Derby. League One vs the Championship. Can the League One hosts make their presence felt in front of their own fans, despite facing higher-level opponents? Absolutely.
The O’s come into this game in flying form, winning each of their last five games, while they’ve also won eight of their last nine. Not only have they been grinding out results, but they’ve been scoring plenty of goals too, even against League One’s best team, so we really shouldn’t be surprised if they inflicted some damage to a visiting backline that is now without a clean sheet in five games.
The Rams naturally have the quality to make headway of their own at Brisbane Road having recently scored away in the Championship against both Luton and Sheffield Wednesday. Do they have the defensive strength to keep the hosts quiet, though? For my money, no chance.
Mansfield vs Wigan - Both Teams to Score
Last up we’ve got an all League One tie between Mansfield and Wigan, who met as recently as late October 2024, with the Latics winning by two goals to one in front of a home crowd.
What we saw when the teams met towards the end of the previous calendar year bodes well, with Wigan dominating and creating chances on the front foot, but giving up chances on the break at the same time.
Offensively, Saturday’s hosts have thrived at One Call Stadium, though they’ve not kept too many clean sheets, conceding in three of their last four.
In general, the Stags have scored with regularity, scoring in each of their last five, while the Latics have failed to score just once in their last five.
Moreover, this is likely a game that both teams will view as winnable, so in true FA Cup fashion, we should see two teams going for it in Nottinghamshire.
