Everton vs Aston Villa preview
This match will be played on 15/01/2025 at Goodison Stadium. Kick off will be at 19:30 GMT.
And just like that, after 11 years, David Moyes is back in the Goodison Park dugout. I can only assume that there’s no shortage of Everton fans who’ve missed the man who guided their club so astutely for over a decade, and those fans will now be hoping that the Scotsman can bring about some stability.
This will be Moyes first chance to get things back on track, and he comes in off the back of Everton winning in the FA Cup last time out, so he’s taking charge of a team that’s had a recent confidence boost.
In fairness, home form hasn’t really been a problem this season, with Everton losing just one of their last eight (in all competitions at home). What Moyes will be looking to improve on, though, is a rather poor goal return.
Moyes won’t be the only manager searching for improvement on Tuesday evening, oh no. Unai Emery will be expecting his team to kick on and improve on their travels following that turnaround win against West Ham on Friday night.
As things stand, the visitors sit in a respectable 8th place, and they’re not too far off the European spots, but they’ve been poor away from home, there can be no denying that, winning only one of their last seven away games in all competitions. They’ve lost each of their last five away games in the league.
Everton vs Aston Villa Betting tips
Just one bet stands out from a value point of view as these two do business at Goodison Park.
Over 2.5 Goals
Plenty of Everton’s home games have lacked goals this season, there can be no denying that, though at odds of 11/10, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ looks a decent bet this time around.
The new manager is likely to give everyone a lift, while the hosts come here having scored a couple of goals last time out, which should have given them a boost. Moreover, Moyes will surely be keen for his team to take advantage of what has been a terribly poor Villa back-line, which has conceded two or more goals in four of the last four on the road.
It’s not as if the Toffees have always shied away from high-scorers at home this season, with three or more goals being scored in their home games against Wolves, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton.
Moreover, Unai Emery’s men have developed a habit of being involved in high-scoring away games, with the ball hitting the back of the net in each of their last four away games (in all competitions). In the Premier League, six of their last seven away games have produced at least three goals, with four or more goals being scored in three of those six.
Given the circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s game, with both teams looking to win (for different reasons), and with the visitors seemingly unable to avoid goal-filled games on the road, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ looks a bit generously priced at 11/10.
