After Newcastle and Arsenal battle it out for a place in the EFL Cup final on Wednesday evening, Liverpool and Tottenham go head-to-head on Thursday.

Can Spurs cling on to what is a rather tentative first-leg lead? Or will the hosts simply have too much in the locker for a team that continues to have injury problems? Read on for our Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction, tips and preview.

Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction

For the Liverpool vs Tottenham match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 3-1 win for Liverpool based on our analysis.

Can the Spurs really get over the line here? It seems highly unlikely. They remain without some key players, while they’ve shown very little defensive solidity this season, which doesn’t bode well given how strong the hosts are up top on home soil.

Liverpool vs Tottenham head-to-head statistics

For the third time this season, Liverpool and Tottenham will lock horns. When the pair met in the league just before Christmas, the Reds ran riot, scoring six goals away from home, but it was a different story a few weeks later, when Spurs managed to tighten up, winning the first leg of this semi-final by a goal to nil.

Liverpool vs Tottenham preview

This match will be played on 07/02/2025 at Anfield. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.

Following their defeat in the first leg of this semi-final, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was far from happy, especially with the fact that he (and not only he) felt that Lucas Bergvall was very lucky to be on the pitch when scoring the winner.

Fortunately for Thursday’s hosts, the first-leg damage is minimal, with the Reds needing to overturn just a single-goal disadvantage. Given what we’ve seen from both them and the Spurs defence this season, Liverpool’s progression to the final still seems rather likely.

For the visitors, this is a tricky game. Ange Postecoglou is probably caught in two minds. He knows that his team struggle to keep teams at bay, so sitting back and looking to soak up pressure may simply be asking for trouble, though if his side go toe-to-toe with the hosts, they’ll very likely get outscored, as was the case when the pair met in the league just before Christmas.

Thankfully for Spurs, Micky van de Ven’s return to fitness provides a much-needed defensive boost, while they did keep a clean sheet against an offensively capable Brentford side at the weekend, which should mean that, at the very least, confidence is on the up.

Liverpool vs Tottenham betting tips

There are a few roads that could easily be taken ahead of this game, but my primary play here focuses on one of the visiting players.

Son Heung-min Over 0.5 Shots on Target

In what has been a tough season for Spurs, captain Son Heung-min hasn’t exactly enjoyed a vintage campaign. In fact, on many occasions, the South Korean has delivered sub par performances.

However, we’re still talking about a player who has been fantastic for Spurs over the years, one who continues to offer a serious threat on his day, and in recent weeks, his performances have improved.

Son recently scored away against Arsenal, before scoring twice away at Hoffenheim in the Europa League, while he provided the match winning assist against Brentford at the weekend.

From a shooting point of view, Son is still very much a threat, shooting at least twice in five of his last six in all competitions. He’s registered seven shots on target during those six games.

When I factor in that Son averages 1.19 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, odds of 10/11 just look too big. Such odds should be taken by those searching for value.
