Heidenheim vs Copenhagen head-to-head statistics

This will be just the second renewal of this fixture. For the first time ever, the pair met in the Danish capital last week, where Heidenheim came out on top by two goals to one.

Heidenheim vs Copenhagen preview

This match will be played on 20/02/2025 at Voith-Arena. Kick off will be at 17:45 GMT.

It hasn’t exactly been a vintage season for Heidenheim, who by qualifying for the UEFA Conference League surpassed all expectations last term, though with one of the German top flight’s most modest budgets, and with continental commitments to juggle, they’ve not been able to replicate that success this time around.

In truth, it’s been tricky for the team from Baden-Württemberg. As things stand, they’re down in 16th, which means that if the season ended now, they’d be involved in the relegation play-off. That’s not the worst thing in the world, as they’d likely back themselves to beat 2. Bundesliga opposition over two legs, though they’re in serious danger of dropping into the bottom two, with Bochum only behind them on goal difference. It really is touch and go.

Since they have a relegation battle to contend with, is this competition high on their list of priorities? Maybe not, but given that they’re far from European regulars, they likely can’t resist giving it everything they’ve got. After a promising first-leg display, winning by two goals to one, they’re in the driving seat and are now just 90 minutes away from a place in the last 16.

For the visitors, who are very much UEFA competition regulars, this tie is an important one. Then again, they’ve not had it all their own way domestically and are locked in a title battle with Midtjylland, meaning that they may not be overly focused on this competition.

It’s hard to know whether going deep into the Conference League is more of a priority than given the title push their all, but what we do know is that the visitors have struggled to win away from home on the continent this season, so turning this one around will be anything but straightforward for Jacob Neestrup’s men.

Heidenheim vs Copenhagen betting tips

Ahead of this UEFA Conference League fixture, one player bet appeals from a value point of view.

Paul Wanner to Score

Youngster Paul Wanner, who is on loan from Bayern, has enjoyed a solid campaign for Heidenheim this term. The 19-year-old joined on a season-long loan back in the summer and has since gained valuable minutes at the highest level of German football for the first time in his career.

Forward-thinking, creative, strong with the ball at his feet, and more than capable of scoring goals, the man given the number 10 shirt for the season, has been one of the brightest sparks for the team from Voith-Arena this term, both in the league and in this competition.

In seven Conference League appearances (including one qualifier), Wanner has contributed two goals and an assist, while his overall performances have been eye-catching, with the direct youngster showing a clear hunger for goals.

For Thursday’s hosts, only the more experienced and much older Leo Scienza has outperformed Wanner in terms of Conference League shots, while the man who spent last year on loan at Elversberg easily stands as the best player in the squad in terms of shots on target, averaging an impressive 1.80 per 90. That’s hard to ignore, let’s be honest.

Also averaging 3.09 shots per 90 minutes in this competition, Wanner has clearly been keen to leave his mark, and as he goes up against a visiting team that has done anything but thrive defensively of late, a team that must leave themselves exposed to the break sooner or later, he may do just that in front of a home crowd on Thursday evening.

This is very much the sort of game that ought to suit the young forward, whose habit for shooting in this competition makes odds of 3/1 a bit too big. Such odds offer some all-important value for my money.
