The FA Cup returns this weekend, with a selection of fight-round fixtures coming our way from various locations up and down the country. On Saturday lunchtime, two games take place, including one at Deepdale, where Preston and Burnley will lock horns.
This is an all Championship affair, one that neither will want to lose, but which side will get the job done and progress? Read on for our Preston vs Burnley prediction, tips and preview.
Preston vs Burnley prediction
For the Preston vs Burnley match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-0 win for the hosts based on our analysis.
The visitors are one of the Championship big boys this season, but they don’t score many goals on the road, while the hosts are hard to beat at home. Moreover, with their sights set firmly on promotion, this game may not be a priority for Scott Parker’s men.

Preston vs Burnley head-to-head statistics
This will be the third time that the pair have met this season, with the first meeting (in the Championship) ending all square (0-0) at Turf Moor, back in October, before another goalless draw unfolded at Deepdale just a fortnight ago.
Preston vs Burnley preview
This match will be played on 01/03/2025 at Deepdale. Kick off will be at 12:15 GMT.
Is the current season going well for Saturday’s hosts? Well, it’s not going terribly, that’s for sure. The men from Deepdale are quite hard to beat, while they currently sit in the middle of the pack, not completely without a chance of pushing for the play-offs, though they might have to get their skates on a bit.
Paul Heckingbottom’s men have ticked long this season, though they do find goals hard to come by, which is why they’re not quite as close to the top six as they may wish to be. Still, teams know that they’ll be met with a stiff test against Preston, so it could be worse.
Prior to this game, the hosts find themselves without a win in three, but that narrow loss to Coventry last time out was their first defeat in five (in all competitions), so they’ll likely fancy themselves to make life tough for the visitors, and not for the first time this season.
For Scott Parker and Burnley, the season has gone rather well, there can be no denying that. A side that’s strong in possession, teams have found it very hard to make headway against the Clarets, who really do starve teams of the ball at times.
Parker’s promotion chasers, who currently sit third in the Championship table, will go to Deepdale having not lost any of their last 23 games in all competitions. However, they did fail to win on the road against Preston just two weeks ago, failing to score in the process, so don’t be surprised if the visitors struggle to be at their best.
Preston vs Burnley betting tips
Just one bet appeals ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup fixture.
Preston Draw No Bet
With the insurance that ‘Draw No Bet’ provides, at seemingly user friendly odds of 13/8, I’m going to side with the hosts here. They likely wouldn’t admit this, at least not publicly, but the visitors could almost certainly do without being sidetracked from their promotion push at this stage of the season and I’m just not sure that they’ll be going all out to win this, which bodes well for the hosts, especially as they’ve already twice thwarted the Clarets in the league this season.
The hosts are easily one of the more rigid Championship teams, conceding fewer goals and losing less games than every other team currently outside of the top half, while only one team not currently in the top six has outperformed Heckingbottom’s men in either of those areas.
We know that the Clarets don’t find it easy playing against this Preston side, with the Lilywhites grinding out decent results both home and away in the Championship, keeping a clean sheet on both occasions.
What’s more, we have to assume that it is the hosts who are likely more willing to give this a go. Sure, they’re not completely without a chance of reaching the play-offs, though a top-six finish is unlikely, while they’re also highly unlikely to be anywhere near the relegation scrap come the end of the season, leaving them free to attempt a cup run.
In contrast, the visitors are all about getting into the top two and going up automatically, and as they have a real chance of doing that, we could see Parker rest key players here. I’m not sure this is currently being reflected accurately enough in the betting, making odds of 13/8 for ‘Preston Draw No Bet’ look quite generous.
