There’s a colossal clash in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with old Madrid foes Atletico and Real meeting at Metropolitano Stadium, where they’ll battle it out for the right to feature in the last eight of this competition.
Thanks to a second-half strike from Brahim Diaz, Wednesday’s visitors edged ahead last week, taking with them across town a single-goal aggregate lead. Can they see it out in the backyard of their bitter rivals? Or will Diego Simeone’s men be able to turn things around in front of a home crowd? A fascinating game awaits. Read on for our Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid player betting tips.

This game takes place on 12/03/2025 at Metropolitano Stadium. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
From a value point of view, they like the look of just one player-betting angle ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash between the pair from the Spanish capital.
Javi Galan to be Booked
With odds of 21/10 available at BoyleSports, I cannot help but conclude that Atletico full-back Javi Galan, who has become a fixture in the side in recent times, is a decent bet to pick up a card.
The defender is no stranger to getting on the wrong side of referees, and I really wouldn’t be fooled by the fact that he’s gone three games without getting carded. This is a man who is never far away from an overzealous tackle, while his next card is usually right around the corner.
In LaLiga, no Atleti player has made more fouls than Javi Galan this season, with the Spaniard giving away an average of 2.19 fouls per 90 minutes. He’s also collected a rather chunky average of 0.53 cards per 90 minutes, and that stat makes odds of 21/10 (= 32.3% implied probability) look big to my eyes.
Full-blooded and happy to mix it, Galan is very much a defender in the Diego Simeone mould, which is likely why he’s a repeat offender, picking up three yellows in his last seven appearances, including against Real Madrid in LaLiga back in February.
This is a high-pressure game, there’s no doubting that, and it’s in the biggest games that Galan often tends to step beyond the law, with his last two cards coming against Barcelona and Real Madrid. In each of those games, Galan found it tough to deal with pacey and direct wide players, which doesn't exactly bode well for him ahead of Wednesday's game.
We know that one of Atletico’s main strengths under Simeone is their ability to fight for everything, so don’t expect to see a home team taking it easy on Wednesday evening. There will be lots of tough tackling on show at Metropolitano Stadium, and Galan should be right in the thick of it. If you can, take odds of 21/10.

The table below shows the odds available for our player betting tips (at the time of writing), as well as what I consider to be fair odds for these bets. To be clear, to take value, you should be taking odds that are bigger than the fair odds. If bigger odds are not available, then there’s no value, which means no bet.
