After Tuesday’s starter of three Premier League games, the midweek main course is served on Wednesday, when no fewer than the six top-flight fixtures take place at various footballing venues across the country, including Amex Stadium, where Brighton and Aston Villa will lock horns.
Having been denied a place in the FA Cup semi finals on Saturday evening, losing out on penalties to Nottingham Forest, the Seagulls will be looking to fly a little higher when they take on a Villa side that did make the final four, beating Preston by three goals to nil. Read on for our Brighton vs Aston Villa bet builder tips.
Brighton vs Aston Villa bet builder tips
This match will be played on 02/04/2025 at Amex Stadium. Kick off will be at 19:45 GMT.
Four selections go into the following bet builder, which pays 22/1 with betway.
Both Teams to Score
We’ll start this same-game multi with a bet on both teams to find the net. The Seagulls didn’t exactly get off the ground on Saturday, scoring neither in normal time or extra time as they were made to exit the FA Cup, though they haven’t often failed to score in front of a home crowd in the league this season.
The hosts have scored in four of their last five league games at Amex Stadium, while the visitors have only failed to score in one of their last five on the road (in the league).
Interestingly, ranking as the joint-second-highest teams in the ‘Both Teams to Score’ table, having scored and conceded in 69% of their Premier League games this season, are Aston Villa and Brighton. Not easy to ignore.
Kaoru Mitoma 1+ Shot on Target
As was always likely, few players have looked as lively as Kaoru Mitoma for Brighton this season, with the direct Japanese winger scoring seven league goals.
From a shooting point of view, Mitoma has also been one of Brighton’s most active performers, shooting 47 times. Only Georginio Rutter has taken more Premier League shots for the Seagulls this season.
What’s more, in terms of the real regulars, Mitoma is the number one player in terms of shots on target, while only one Brighton regular averages more shots on target per 90 minutes.
When the 27-year-old last played in the league, against Manchester City before the international break, he registered two shots on target, while he’s also recently tested both the Chelsea and Southampton goalies, so don’t be surprised if he looks to work Emi Martinez in the Villa goal on Wednesday evening.
Joao Pedro 1+ Assist
Joining Mitoma as one of Brighton’s most dangerous players is Joao Pedro, who when fit really is an all-action final-third contributor.
No Brighton player has done better than Pedro in terms of goals and assists combined this season, while the Brazilian also stands alone for each of those categories combined. He certainly knows how to put the ball in the net, but we've seen his creative abilities come to the fore on a relatively regular basis this season too.
During the current campaign, Pedro has registered six assists, averaging 0.32 assists per 90 minutes. We’re also talking about Brighton’s top performer in terms of passes into the penalty area and expected assists goals. I like such stats a lot.
John McGinn to be Carded
Last but not least, we’re rounding this bet builder off with a punt on John McGinn to get booked for the visitors. Very much the beating heart of this Aston Villa team, the Scottish midfielder, who captains the side, offers lots in terms of energy, leadership and clever football.
However, McGinn is also a player that steps outside of the rules reasonably often, which is why he’s been shown six yellow this season, averaging 0.30 cards per 90 minutes.
Interestingly, no regular Villa player averages more cards per 90 minutes, while no usual starter averages more fouls per 90 either, with McGinn giving away an average of 1.93 fouls.
In a couple of recent games for his nation, McGinn made a total of six fouls, while it’s not as if he isn’t in the habit of fouling lots on the road for Villa, recently making six fouls away against Palace fouling four times away at Chelsea too. That’ll do me.
